Loft storage for your home in Raynes Park

Loft storage in Raynes Park: what you get

Sloping ceilings make standard wardrobes hard to fit. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the room’s height. The design visit in Raynes Park is where we work it out. Most enquiries start with needing storage in a loft office and a boarded loft with no proper shelving, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Around Raynes Park, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the bay window at the front, the space under the stairs and the box room are the usual places to gain storage. Any meters or fuse boards that need to stay reachable are designed around.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Boards, parts and paint

Plinths and scribe strips

Loft rooms are seldom square. We use scribe strips and a plinth to take up the difference. The result is neat, even lines all round.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. It suits carcasses, drawer boxes and shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

Before and after fitting day

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
  • Note any vents or insulation in the eaves
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Let us know about parking near your home

Once the fitting is done, the storage is ready to use. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Avoid sticky tape, heavy knocks and harsh cleaners while it hardens.

Temperatures in a loft room can swing more than elsewhere. Keep the room ventilated. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

Your questions about loft storage in Raynes Park

Can you make loft storage for a home in Raynes Park?

Yes. Raynes Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Merton and London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Raynes Park?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.

How is loft storage priced?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and we will arrange a design visit.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Usually not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

What happens on fitting day

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.

Before fitting day

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Starting with a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit. To book one, message us from the contact page.

Advice

Flats, conversions and lettings

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.

Loft storage in Raynes Park: local notes

In the area around Raynes Park, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 48%) and before 1919 (about 25%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Raynes Park include Methodist Church (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling may need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Terraced houses are home to about 31% of households in the streets around Raynes Park, based on Census 2021. Loft conversions are common in London terraces, leaving eaves and sloping ceilings to use.

Living in a block of flats near Raynes Park station? Then eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your children go to West Wimbledon Primary School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. Southside House, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Raynes Park is about 2 miles north-east of Wimbledon, part of the London Borough of Merton. We design and make loft storage for homes in Raynes Park and across Merton. Raynes Park is one of 20 places on our list for Merton.

Every home in SW20, KT3 and SM4 is covered for loft storage. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Gore Road, Edna Road and Wyke Road, whether you want loft storage or another piece made for the room. If you are just outside Raynes Park, we also cover West Barnes (1 mile south-west), Bushey Mead (1 mile north-east), Cannon Hill (1 mile east), Motspur Park (1 mile north-west) and Wimbledon Chase (1 mile north-east). Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?

A standalone wardrobe can go with you when you move. Fitted storage stays put, and it makes far more of the loft. Which suits you depends on your plans. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall normally ends with a gap, which fitted furniture avoids. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit.
