About fitted wardrobes in IG7
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. Others work around a window, with a dressing table or seat in between. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. Typical reasons to get in touch are no space in front for doors to swing and a bedroom that never feels tidy; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You describe the bedroom and the storage you need. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers.
- A quote in writing follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
- Once you’re happy, the wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.
What goes into your quote
Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we have measured up.
What you get with us

Starting with a design visit
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Fitted wardrobes across IG7: local notes
Across IG7, bedrooms range from period rooms with high ceilings to compact rooms in newer blocks. Fitted wardrobes are drawn up to suit the room you actually have, with the inside laid out around what you keep.
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 49% of the housing in IG7, with about 24% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. More than a third of the homes in the IG7 postcode district (about 49%) date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. About 47% of households in the IG7 postcode district live in detached or semi-detached houses, based on Census 2021. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, IG7 included. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.
Woodford Bridge: Valentines Mansion, about 2.3 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near Linder's Field, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.
The problems fitted wardrobes solve
A move is a common trigger. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or may not make it up the stairs. Fitted wardrobes are designed for the room you have now.
Here’s what fitted wardrobes can help with:
- Clothes with nowhere proper to go
- Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
- Wasted space beside the chimney breast
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the design visit.
What it costs
Several things affect the price:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Before the design visit
To help us picture the room, please include:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Practical tips
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
- In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
- Empty the area where we’ll be working
A soft, slightly damp cloth is enough to clean painted doors. Avoid abrasive pads and strong sprays, as they can dull the paint.
Let doors close gently rather than slamming. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.
Boards, parts and paint
Hanging rails
We place rails at the heights your clothes need: a high rail for long items and double rails for shorter ones.
Birch plywood
Shelves inside a wardrobe carry folded clothes, shoes and boxes. Birch plywood keeps them flat, even across a wide section.
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?
Floors in older houses are often out of level. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.
Which boards do you build with?
We build with moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job best. Your quote sets out the materials.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
What happens during the design visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
How long the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.
