Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Highams Park station?
Yes, homes across Redbridge and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Woodford Bridge?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.
How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Woodford Bridge?
Simply use our contact form. It helps to send rough sizes and a few pictures, and we will arrange a design visit.
Who chooses the colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. It’s planned so there’s room around the bed and the room does not feel enclosed.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
About our fitted wardrobes in Woodford Bridge
Doors can be hinged or sliding. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. We weigh them up with you during the design visit. Most enquiries start with damp or musty clothes against an external wall and wardrobes that are full to bursting; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Woodford Bridge, bedrooms are often straightforward shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are usually straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.
- You send us some details about the room and the storage you need, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
- We send a quote in writing for the wardrobes, so you can see what’s included.
- Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling.

How it’s made
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF in a moisture-resistant grade is stable and paints evenly, which makes it ideal for wardrobe doors and visible panels. It suits bedrooms where the wardrobe sits on an external wall.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting lets you judge the colour in the room before the final coat. Joins and scribed edges are painted in the same coats.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Getting a big standalone wardrobe into a flat or up a tight stair can be difficult. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, ready to assemble in the room. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes
Several things affect the price:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Before the design visit
Ahead of the design visit, we will typically ask about:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.
Bedroom storage in Woodford Bridge
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 49% of the housing in the area around Woodford Bridge, with about 24% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 13 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Woodford Bridge. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If you live on or close to a main road in Woodford Bridge, let us know at the measuring visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
For a family home near Roding Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. Close to Linder's Field? Fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. For a flat near Highams Park station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Flats, leases and landlords
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.
