Bespoke kitchens in Woodford Bridge: what you get

We make kitchens to fit the room, not a catalogue of set sizes. Every unit is sized from careful measurements taken during the design visit, so the runs fit neatly from wall to wall. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you, and the kitchen is made in our workshop before it is fitted. If you’re living with a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers and open shelves with cupboards below, that is what kitchens are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Knocked-through kitchen-diners in older semis sometimes keep a chimney breast, and the recesses beside it can take a dresser or larder. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Woodford Bridge, the design can make the most of it. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and damp is sorted first.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

When is bespoke worth it?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

What it costs

Several things affect the price:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The width and height of the space
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.

Before the design visit

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf kitchens are quicker to buy and normally cost less, and in a square modern room they can work well. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. Bespoke is a bigger investment, built around the space you have. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Questions we’re often asked

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Woodford Bridge?

Yes, Woodford Bridge is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Redbridge and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Woodford Bridge?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Should I send photos?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes, that’s part of the job. Few walls in a period house are straight, so we scribe and level every cabinet.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Woodford Bridge

About 49% of the homes in the area around Woodford Bridge went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 24% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Woodford Bridge include Gwynne House (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east, and Stables East of Gwynne House (Grade II), under half a mile north-east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Woodford Bridge (about 49%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Interwar houses often started with a small kitchen that has since been extended or opened up, so the cabinets are made for today’s layout.

Living in a block of flats near Highams Park station? Then kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. The wider area includes historic houses like Valentines Mansion, about 2.3 miles south. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. Close to Linder's Field? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Interwar houses typically have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it is going, with floors protected throughout.

  1. You tell us about the room and how you use it. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage.
  3. We send a quote in writing setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Let us know about parking near your home
