Fitted furniture in Redbridge

How we make fitted wardrobes for Redbridge

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in a colour agreed with you. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about wardrobes that are full to bursting and storage boxes stacked under the bed.

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You contact us with some details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop.
  5. Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.

Quotes in Redbridge

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Bedroom storage across Redbridge

We make fitted wardrobes for homes across Redbridge, in Woodford, Ilford and Loxford and beyond. On an external wall, ventilation is designed in to help keep condensation away. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whatever it’s made of.

The biggest shares of homes in Redbridge were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%) and before 1919 (about 27%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. About 34% of homes in Redbridge date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. About 32% of households in Redbridge live in terraced houses, according to Census 2021. Terraced houses often have a narrow back bedroom and alcoves either side of a chimney breast, both good spaces for fitted storage.

In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so the way in is measured along with the room.

Woodford: Valentines Mansion, about 2.7 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live in a period home close to St Barnabas' Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them at the design visit.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Caring for painted furniture

Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Let us know about any damp you have seen on bedroom walls
  • Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
  • Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block
  • Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed

Once clothes go in and the wardrobes are in daily use, doors may settle slightly. Hinges can normally be adjusted to line the doors up again.

Keep any ventilation gaps clear, especially where the wardrobe meets an outside wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes.

Could you do it yourself?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. That is a real advantage if you are renting or moving soon. Fitted wardrobes stay with the room.

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

Hinged doors suit rooms with space in front. Sliding doors suit narrow rooms.

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done on site once the wardrobes are fitted. Small marks are simple to touch up.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?

The space in front of the wardrobe usually decides it. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We will look at the room with you during the design visit.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. If you’re in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes, with ventilation planned in. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we plan airflow behind and within it.

Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?

Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
