Woodford Bridge Loft Storage

Loft storage in Woodford Bridge: eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts. We visit to measure and discuss the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.

  • Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • Unused space in a dormer

Looking after your furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:

  • Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
  • Note the things that need a home in the loft
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can

Once the fitting is done, the storage is ready to use. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Keep tape and strong cleaners away from it while it settles.

Sharp edges and heavy boxes can chip a painted edge. Store tools in a box, not loose against the doors. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.

Loft storage in Woodford Bridge

The space behind the knee wall typically has insulation and ventilation to think about. We design the storage so it doesn’t block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft. When we visit in Woodford Bridge, we’ll see what’s there. If you are living with needing storage in a loft office and an empty dormer that could hold shelves, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Around Woodford Bridge, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the hall is often wide enough for coat and shoe storage. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Each space is measured and eaves cupboards are made to suit it.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

What affects the cost of loft storage

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Helping us understand the room

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • How you want to use the space

To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

Questions from Woodford Bridge

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Woodford Bridge?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It’s something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.

Is the furniture made to order?

We make it in our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.

Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. The wardrobe follows the angle of the ceiling, with hanging where there is height. It makes the most of the space. We’ll work out the layout when we visit.

Loft storage for homes in Woodford Bridge

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 49% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Woodford Bridge, with about 24% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Woodford Bridge, Historic England’s list includes Gwynne House (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east, and Stables East of Gwynne House (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. About 49% of homes in the streets around Woodford Bridge date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Loft conversions are common in houses of that age, and the eaves can take fitted storage.

Valentines Mansion, about 2.3 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. If you live near Linder's Field, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. For an older house near Church of St Paul, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.

Materials and finishes

Pull-out drawers

A run of drawers along the knee wall can work like a long chest. The top can be a surface for books or lamps. We agree the layout at the measuring visit.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting on site lets the storage be finished alongside the woodwork around it. It’s easy to touch up later. Like any new paint, it needs time to cure fully.

What loft storage can’t fix

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • Approval for structural changes
  • Electrical work in the loft

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can message us from the contact page and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

What goes into it

  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Sloped wardrobe tops

How fitting day works

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are usually straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
