Why people ask for TV and media units in Grove Park
Equipment on the floor is another reason. A media unit gives each box its own ventilated space.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- Standard units leaving gaps
- Cables trailing across the wall
- Speakers muffled behind doors
- Boxes with no ventilation
The wider area includes historic houses such as Eltham Palace, about 1.6 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.
What to check before you book
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
TV and media units in Grove Park
In a room with a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for media storage. The alcoves can take cupboards for equipment and shelves above leaving the TV in an alcove or on the breast. We keep any vent in the chimney breast clear. If your home has set-top boxes stacked on a stand and speakers muffled behind doors, TV and media units made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
A typical 1930s semi has a bay window at the front and a chimney breast with a recess either side. Around Grove Park, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so it’s a layout worth planning for. We tend to plan TV and media units along the chimney breast wall so the bay keeps its light.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Living-room carpentry in Grove Park: local notes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 61% of the housing in the streets around Grove Park, with about 15% built between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Grove Park, Historic England’s list includes Baring Hall Hotel and associated stable block (Grade II), less than half a mile south. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. For fitting in Grove Park, a van normally needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
If your children go to Haberdashers' Aske's Knights Academy or a school nearby, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design. Close to Chinbrook Meadows? A room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone.
Grove Park is about 4 miles north-west of New Cross, within the London Borough of Lewisham. Wherever you are in Grove Park, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. In Lewisham, Grove Park is one of the places we cover.
Every address in BR1, SE12 and SE9 is covered for TV and media units, from the main roads to the quieter streets. Whether you live on a street like Shaw Road, Camlan Road and Baring Road or on one nearby, we can visit to measure up for TV and media units. Grove Park sits close to the A2212. If your home is on one of them, tell us during the design visit, as some main roads have strict stopping rules. Close by, we also work in Chinbrook (1 mile east), Mottingham (1 mile east), Downham (1 mile south-west), Plaistow (1 mile south-west) and Sundridge (1 mile south). Across the rest of Lewisham, our area takes in New Cross (4 miles north-west), St Johns (3 miles north-west), Deptford (4 miles north-west), Catford (2 miles north-west), Lewisham (2 miles north-west) and Surrey Canal (5 miles north-west).
Around Grove Park
We fit furniture in homes around Colfe's School and Cooper's Lane Primary School. There’s a railway station in Grove Park itself: Grove Park station. Other landmarks nearby include Eltham Community Hospital (1.9 miles north-east) and Prefab Museum (1 mile west). For a walk, there is Downham Woodland Walk.
How it is made
Doors and drawer fronts
Many remote controls need a clear view of the box, so those spaces may be open rather than behind a door.
Birch plywood
A wide shelf under the TV needs stiffness. Birch plywood helps.
Questions from Grove Park
Do you cover homes near Grove Park station?
Yes. We cover all of Lewisham and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Grove Park?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?
That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Can the TV be wall-mounted with a unit around it?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket, with a route for the cables. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket.
Can I send photos ahead of the visit?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Fitting day, step by step
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch and list what the unit has to take: the screen, boxes, consoles and speakers.
- We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run.
- A quote in writing follows for the unit.
- We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, leaving routes for cables and gaps for air.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish and the routes left clear.
How to prepare
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
Ask for a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit for you to look over. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

When is bespoke worth it?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you contact us.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
