Living-room storage in Sundridge

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Sundridge were built before 1919 (about 33%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 27%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of Sundridge, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Sundridge, as it does anywhere else in London. We plan parking and access with you at the measuring visit.

Close to Elmstead Wood? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it. If you live in a flat close to Sundridge Park station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. Near listed buildings like Quernmore Secondary School, about 0.5 miles west of the centre of Sundridge, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

TV and media units for homes in Sundridge

We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in the colour you prefer. We fit across Bromley and the rest of London once the design and quote are agreed. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are a TV that looks out of place in the room and wasted space around the screen.

Homes in an area like Sundridge can come from many different periods, and a wall might be brick, lath and plaster, blockwork or plasterboard. That is why every wall is checked during the design visit before the fixings are chosen. If your room has a chimney breast, the alcoves are an obvious place for TV and media units; if not, a full wall works well.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Questions from Sundridge

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Sundridge?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Sundridge?

Yes, Sundridge is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bromley and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls during the design visit.

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Fitting day, step by step

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift not just the room, so TV and media units arrive in sections that fit through. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.

  1. You get in touch and list what the unit has to take: the screen, boxes, consoles and speakers.
  2. At the design visit we measure the wall and plan cable routes and ventilation, as set-top boxes, consoles and amplifiers need air. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, leaving routes for cables and gaps for air.
  5. We fit it in your home and leave the cable routes ready for you to use.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standard units come in fixed sizes. Ours are scribed to the walls and can run up to the ceiling with shelves and cupboards around the screen. A standard unit is the same in every home, whatever the room is like, whereas fitted pieces are designed for one room: yours. The finish is chosen to suit the space.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Why choose Bespoke Carpentry in Sundridge

  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Aerial, satellite or broadband installation
  • Structural changes to the wall
  • Configuring the TV and sound system

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What it is made from

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Ventilated cabinets
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Cable routes
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

What affects the price in Sundridge

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • Parking near your home
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • The overall size of the piece

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

What to send when you get in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • What the furniture needs to hold

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To book one, message us from the contact page.
