About our TV and media units in Hounslow
Built-in TV and media units bring the screen, set-top boxes, speakers and cables together in one piece of furniture. The wall is planned as a whole, rather than a stand with wires trailing behind it. For a living room in Hounslow, the first step is a design visit to measure up and look at your equipment. Typical reasons to get in touch are wasted space around the screen and a tangle of wires behind the TV, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
A typical 1930s semi has a bay window at the front and a chimney breast with a recess either side. Around Hounslow, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so it’s a layout worth planning for. TV and media units typically go on the chimney breast wall, leaving the bay clear, though every room is measured first.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Do you need TV and media units in Hounslow?
Games, controllers and remotes need a home. Drawers and cupboards hold them out of sight.
Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:
- Nowhere good for speakers
- Cables trailing across the wall
- Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
If you live near Sunbury Park, TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.
What to check before you book
- Real projects you can actually look at
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?

Fitting day, step by step
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go.
- We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
- We build the unit in our workshop, with routes and ventilation planned in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Getting ready for fitting day

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, drop us a line using the contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Your questions about TV and media units in Hounslow
I live near Sunbury station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover the whole of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Hounslow?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
Can you add sockets behind the TV?
We don’t do electrical work. Sockets and wiring are for your electrician. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.
Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket. The bracket needs a sound wall, which we look at during the design visit.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
We plan the route in at the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Will the cables be hidden?
We design the unit so cables run out of sight. Access panels make future changes easy. For a wall-mounted TV, a route behind the screen is planned in.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Caring for painted furniture
Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished
- Decide where you’ll sit, so the screen height suits it
- Note the screen size you have or plan to buy
- Tell us about parking and access at the measuring visit
Paint is dry to the touch well before it has fully cured. For the first while, place equipment gently rather than sliding it.
Keep heavy speakers and amplifiers on lower shelves, and no single shelf overloaded.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through.
Living-room storage in Hounslow
Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 36% of the housing in the area around Hounslow, with about 31% built between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If you live on or close to a main road in Hounslow, let us know at the measuring visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and the rest of London is no exception. Where a street in Hounslow is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. We ask about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
For an older house near Church of St Dunstan, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. For a family home near Meadhurst Primary School, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else.
