  • Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
  • Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
  • Cables trailing across the wall

TV and media units designed for your room

How we make TV and media units for Feltham

Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes and the cable route behind it. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit, with the cables kept out of sight. Most enquiries start with clutter around the TV and equipment running hot in a closed cupboard, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

A house from between the wars usually has lower ceilings than a Victorian one, so TV and media units are proportioned to the room rather than copied from a taller one. If yours is one of the interwar houses, semis or detached homes that make up much of the housing around Feltham, the cornice may be plain or missing, so the furniture can run straight to the ceiling. The skirting is scribed around neatly.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

What affects the cost of TV and media units

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Before the design visit

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Tips worth knowing

The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes
  • Think about whether you’ll upgrade the screen
  • Book your electrician first if sockets need to move
  • Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit

After setting up, check that the boxes aren’t getting too warm. Keep vents, gaps and open backs clear of cables and clutter.

Ask your electrician about new sockets rather than running extension leads through the unit, and do not overload sockets.

TV and media units for homes in Feltham

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Feltham were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 36%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 22%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Within a mile of the centre of Feltham, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Hounslow sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.

If you live near Hounslow Heath, shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green. Near listed buildings like Red Lion Inn, under half a mile south-east of the centre of Feltham, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. For a family home near St Lawrence Catholic Primary School, shelving with deep cupboards below keeps books, games and school things in one place.

How fitting day works

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Interwar houses normally have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in not just the room. TV and media units arrive in sections and are assembled in place.

  1. You contact us with details of the room, the TV and your equipment.
  2. We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go. Any new sockets are a job for your electrician.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish, for you to look over.
  4. The unit is made at our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in.
  5. Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Advice

Questions from Feltham

Is parking a problem for fitting in Feltham?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Feltham station?

Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

What affects the price of TV and media units?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. Check your lease, as we cannot advise on it.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
