Our fitted wardrobes across TW13
Wardrobes can be built around a bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. Others work around a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. The layout is planned so the room does not feel boxed in. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and no space in front for doors to swing.
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You tell us about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
- We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote.
- Once you are happy, the wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place.
What goes into your quote
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.
What you get with us
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
- Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
- Over 300 projects completed
How to get a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, use our contact form.
Local landmarks in Hanworth
Our area takes in the homes around Hampton School, Hampton Academy and St Richard's Church, among other places. Nearby too are Buckingham Primary School (less than half a mile south-east) and Crane Park (0.9 miles north). Hanworth’s nearest station is Hampton station, roughly 1.1 miles south. A little further out are Kempton Steam Museum (1.1 miles west) and Teddington Memorial Hospital (1.8 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Oak Avenue Local Nature Reserve.
Homes across TW13 and their bedrooms
In TW13, a spare room often doubles as a study or a guest room. The design can help one room work two ways, keeping clothes, bedding and everything else out of sight.
In TW13, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 28%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 28%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. A quarter or more of the homes in the TW13 postcode district (about 28%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. A quarter or more of the homes in TW13 (about 28%) were built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick.
Since August 2023, the Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London, and TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules, so access to homes in TW13 is planned beforehand.
Hanworth: The wider area includes historic houses like Strawberry Hill House, about 2 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. For families living near Buckingham Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
What prompts fitted wardrobes
An awkward room is another reason. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in tricky spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.
People usually get in touch with us about things like these:
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
- Too little room for clothes
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route during the design visit.
Materials and finishes
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors can be plain, panelled or shaped to suit the room. They’re painted to match or contrast with the walls.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Wardrobe doors are large, so stability matters. MDF gives a flat, smooth surface that paints well.
Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?
Off-the-shelf wardrobes come in standard heights and widths, so there’s typically a gap on top and at the ends. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling, so the space is used and there is nowhere for dust to collect on top.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Where they’ll park and unload
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
What affects the price in TW13
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- How big the furniture is
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Helping us understand the room
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- How you want to use the space
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a written quote.
Questions we’re often asked
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
We plan it with you at the measuring visit, starting from the clothes you have. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Do you cover areas outside London?
No. We work in London and nowhere else.
Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?
Uneven floors are normal in older homes. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet.
How long will the fitting take?
It depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The wardrobes are made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns awkward space into storage.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
