TV and media units for homes in Woodlands
Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes and the cable route behind it. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit, with the cables kept out of sight. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are set-top boxes stacked on a stand and clutter around the TV.
In a semi from the 1920s or 1930s, the front room typically has a bay at one end and a chimney breast on the side wall. Interwar, semi-detached and detached houses make up a big part of the housing around Woodlands, so that layout is worth knowing well. We tend to plan TV and media units along the chimney breast wall so the bay keeps its light, though every room is measured first.
The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Caring for painted furniture
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Find out how much space each box needs around it
- Note the size of each box and speaker
- Mention parking and stairs when we visit
- Book your electrician first if sockets need to move
Painted finishes feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. At first, lift boxes and speakers into place rather than pushing them, so the paint is not scuffed.
Tag each lead at both ends, so changes later are simple.
Honest limits
Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we don’t do:
- Repairing plaster or redecorating
- Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast
- Connecting and setting up your equipment
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.
What it is made from
- Cable routes
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Ventilated cabinets
- Spray-painted finish
- Hand-painted finish
- Birch plywood
Why bespoke in Woodlands?
Screen sizes change, and a stand that suits today’s set may look small with the next. We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors aren’t perfectly true, and standalone units can lean or gap. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Why choose us
- Scribed to uneven walls
- Built around your room
- A design visit, then a written quote
- Over 300 projects completed

Woodlands homes and TV and media units
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 32% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Woodlands, with about 25% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Woodlands. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. About 32% of homes in the neighbourhood around Woodlands date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses from the 1920s and 1930s often have a bay window and a chimney breast in the front room, and TV and media units are planned around both.
Close to Inwood Park? A room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone. Syon House, about 1.4 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mary the Virgin, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
Your questions about TV and media units in Woodlands
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Isleworth station?
Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Woodlands?
Yes, Woodlands is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hounslow and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Will the cables be hidden?
We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with access panels for later changes. Where cables reach the wall depends on the sockets, so it’s useful to plan sockets with your electrician.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Typically not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.
Fitting day, step by step
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
