TV and media units in Kew
We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in the colour you prefer. We fit across Richmond upon Thames and the rest of London, after a design visit and a written quote. People usually come to us about a cabinet that traps heat and a TV that looks out of place in the room; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Rooms in houses from before 1919 tend to have generous ceiling heights, and around Kew, a large share of homes are that age. Full-height TV and media units can run up to the picture rail or the cornice, so the furniture looks as if it belongs to the house. Where a fireplace has been blocked up, the chimney still needs ventilating, and any damp is sorted before units go in.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

What it’s made from
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting is done in the workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.
Birch plywood
For carcasses and drawer boxes, birch plywood is hard-wearing. The edge can be painted or left as a detail.
Tips worth knowing
People planning TV and media units often ask about these. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:
- Talk to your electrician early about sockets
- Check where the seating will go
- Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished
- List every box, console and speaker that needs a home
Once your equipment is in, check that it isn’t running hot. Do not block the gaps and openings left for air with cables or clutter.
Do not stack boxes on top of each other in one space. Each one needs space around it.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Bought units come in the maker’s finishes. We paint ours in the colour you choose, by spray or by hand. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines.
Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.
What you get with us

FAQs: TV and media units in Kew
Do you cover homes near Chiswick station?
Yes. We cover all of Richmond upon Thames and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Kew?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can the TV unit fit a bigger TV later?
If you’re likely to upgrade, we can leave room for it. Tell us the size you have in mind.
How do I get a quote?
It is easiest to message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Who chooses the colour?
The choice is yours, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not usually. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Fitting day, step by step
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made at our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, message us from the contact page with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
