TV and media units in Grove Park, Hounslow

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make TV and media units for homes in Grove Park, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Empty alcoves beside the TV
  • Boxes with no ventilation
  • Leads that show from every angle

Need TV and media units in Grove Park?

When you need someone else

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Connecting the TV signal or internet
  • Structural changes to the wall
  • New sockets behind the TV, which need an electrician

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it is made from

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Ventilated cabinets
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Cable routes
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

TV and media units in Grove Park

Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit. If you’re living with nowhere good for speakers and a big screen that dominates the wall, TV and media units made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

Some living rooms in London have tall ceilings and cornices, while others have low, plain ceilings. In Grove Park, as anywhere, we measure the height as carefully as the width, because it decides how tall TV and media units can go. Sections are sized for the stairs and doors on the way in.

Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Your questions about TV and media units in Grove Park

Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in Grove Park?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Grove Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

Can I send pictures before the visit?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them, get in touch through our contact form.

How do you hide the TV cables?

That’s the aim, and it’s planned from the start. Access panels make future changes easy. For a wall-mounted TV, a route behind the screen is planned in.

Living-room carpentry in Grove Park: local notes

About 43% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Grove Park went up before 1919, and about 18% between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. There are 39 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Grove Park. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and TV and media units can be designed to work around them. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Grove Park (about 43%) were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Older houses typically have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit a TV in the middle and media storage either side.

Chiswick House, about 0.5 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. Near listed buildings like Chiswick House, about 0.5 miles east of the centre of Grove Park, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

What prompts TV and media units in Grove Park

Some want the TV to sit better in a period room. A built-in unit around the chimney breast lets it sit more quietly.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • Leads that show from every angle
  • Speakers muffled behind doors
  • Clutter around the TV
  • Standard units leaving gaps

If you live in a flat close to Chiswick station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

What to check before you book

  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

From workshop to your room

The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so let us know what applies at the design visit. If you live in a flat, any lift or building rules are worth checking too.

  1. To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
  3. A quote in writing follows for the unit.
  4. We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, leaving routes for cables and gaps for air.
  5. We fit it in your home and leave the cable routes ready for you to use.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Advice

How we price TV and media units

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • How square the room is
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The internal fittings

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

What to send when you contact us

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

It is useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Caring for painted furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Think about whether you want the screen on a bracket or on a shelf
  • Plan any new sockets with your electrician before fitting
  • Note the size of each box and speaker
  • Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next

After setting up, check that the boxes are not getting too warm. Keep vents, gaps and open backs clear of cables and clutter.

Keep ventilation gaps and open backs clear as things change.
