Turnham Green TV and Media Units
In Turnham Green, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. Your TV unit is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.
- Somewhere to keep games tidy
- A big screen that dominates the wall
- Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard

About our TV and media units in Turnham Green
Speakers need space to be heard properly. A soundbar typically sits just below the TV. Speakers work best in the open rather than behind closed doors. If your home has equipment with nowhere proper to go and a screen at the wrong height, TV and media units made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.
In streets where so much of the housing went up before 1919, as it did around Turnham Green, the living room is often two rooms knocked through, with a chimney breast in each half. That can mean one pair of alcoves for shelving and the other for low cupboards, with the screen on a chimney breast between. Older internal walls can be lath and plaster rather than brick, which changes how shelving is fixed.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Flats, conversions and lettings
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.
When is bespoke worth it?
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
Caring for painted furniture
Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Mention parking and stairs when we visit
- Decide where you’ll sit, so the screen height suits it
- Plan open spaces for anything controlled by a remote
- Talk to your electrician early about sockets
Paint is dry to the touch well before it has fully cured. At first, lift boxes and speakers into place rather than pushing them, so the paint is not scuffed.
Tag each lead at both ends to make future changes easier.
Fitting day, step by step
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it’s useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
- We visit to plan the unit and check the way in. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
- We send a written quote.
- The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment.
Before fitting day
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
Arranging a design visit
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, drop us a line using the contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
Advice
Honest limits
It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
- Setting up and tuning the TV, boxes and speakers
- Structural changes to the wall
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

TV and media units for homes in Turnham Green
In the area around Turnham Green, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 56%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 16%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List has 89 entries within half a mile of the centre of Turnham Green. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and TV and media units can be designed to work around them. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your street in Turnham Green joins a main road, it is worth telling us during the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Chiswick House Conservatory, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. The wider area includes historic houses like Hogarth's House, about 0.2 miles west. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. If your children go to The William Hogarth Primary School or a school nearby, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room.

FAQs: TV and media units in Turnham Green
Do you cover homes near Chiswick station?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Turnham Green?
Yes. Turnham Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hounslow and London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details.
How do you stop equipment overheating in a TV unit?
Equipment gives off heat, so it needs air around it. The unit is planned with open backs or gaps where boxes go. Once it’s in, do not block the gaps.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a written quote.
Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?
Where the TV is to be wall-mounted, we plan the unit around the bracket, with a route for the cables. The bracket needs a sound wall, which we look at during the design visit.
How long will the fitting take?
It depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
