About fitted wardrobes in TW9

Fitted wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Most enquiries start with a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use and empty alcoves in the bedroom; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

  1. You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

What goes into your quote

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside during the design visit.

The nearest railway station is Richmond station, roughly 0.5 miles north. Fitted wardrobes for homes across TW9

Bedrooms across TW9 might have alcoves, sloping ceilings, bulkheads or none of these. Each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls and floor. You choose the colour and whether it’s spray-painted or hand-painted.

Homes built before 1919 make up about 48% of the housing in TW9, with about 17% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. About 48% of homes in TW9 were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Older bedrooms normally have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use. Of the 7 places we have local pages for in TW9, 5 have their centre inside a conservation area, according to Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.

Controlled parking zones cover large parts of London, and depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Richmond: Pembroke Lodge, about 1 mile south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. For a family home near The Vineyard School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where

What affects the price in TW9

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How big the furniture is
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The number of doors and drawers

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Before the design visit

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:

  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Approximate measurements of the space

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To share them, use our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Do you need fitted wardrobes?

Some bedrooms are hard to furnish. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in awkward spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.

Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:

  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
  • A bedroom that never feels tidy

Boards, parts and paint

Hanging rails

We place rails at the heights your clothes need: one high rail for long coats and dresses, two rails for shirts and jackets.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is stiff and grips screws firmly, so it is a good choice for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes. Its layered edge can be painted or left on show.

Honest limits

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Treating damp or mould on the walls
  • Taking out a chimney breast to make space

Questions we are often asked

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?

Yes, with ventilation planned in. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe, which helps avoid condensation.

Do you make the furniture yourselves?

It’s made at our workshop, to the sizes taken at the measuring visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.
