Flats, leases and landlords

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

About our TV and media units in Middle Park

We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The finish is spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you prefer. We fit across Greenwich and the rest of London, after a design visit and a written quote. We make TV and media units from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are somewhere to keep games tidy and a screen at the wrong height.

A good part of the housing around Middle Park is interwar, semi-detached or detached. In a typical 1930s house, the front room has a bay at one end and a chimney breast with an alcove to either side, which decides where TV and media units sit. Walls are often truer than in older houses, but they’re still measured carefully and scribed where they wander.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

From workshop to your room

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It’s useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You send us a few details about the TV, the boxes and the speakers you use.
  2. We visit to measure the wall and talk through the design.
  3. Your quote follows, with the design, materials and finish set out, ready for you to check.
  4. The unit is built in our workshop, with openings for cables and air.
  5. We install the unit, leaving the cable routes and vents clear. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Arranging a design visit

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Built-in living-room furniture in Middle Park

In the area around Middle Park, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 63%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 31%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Middle Park include Great Hall of Eltham Palace (Grade I), less than half a mile east, and Eltham Court (eltham Palace) (Grade II*), less than half a mile east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling may need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. Where a home in Middle Park is on or beside a main road, it’s useful to mention that at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

For a flat near Mottingham station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Eltham Palace, about 0.4 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Saviour, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Is bespoke worth it?

Bespoke furniture takes longer than buying from a shop: there’s a design visit, a quote and making time. For a short stay, a standalone stand can make more sense. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To start, use our contact form.

Your questions about TV and media units in Middle Park

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Middle Park?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Mottingham station?

Yes, homes across Greenwich and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room.

How do you stop equipment overheating in a TV unit?

Equipment gives off heat, so it needs air around it. The unit is planned with open backs or gaps where boxes go. Keep the vents clear once it’s in use.

Do you move sockets for a TV unit?

Your electrician does that. It is best done before the unit goes in.

How long will the fitting take?

It depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

Can you plan for a future TV?

We can size the opening for the screen you might buy next. Tell us the size you have in mind.
