Eltham TV and Media Units

Built-in TV walls and media cabinets, for homes in Eltham. We make each piece in our workshop and fit it in your home, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

  • Equipment with nowhere proper to go
  • Cables trailing across the wall
  • A TV that looks out of place in the room

How we price TV and media units

The price for your room depends on:

  • Parking near your home
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • How big the furniture is

Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.

What to send when you get in touch

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What the furniture needs to hold

If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, use our contact form.

TV and media units in Eltham

In many period living rooms, the chimney breast and its two alcoves shape the whole wall. Cupboards and shelves in the alcoves can hold the boxes, speakers and books, with the TV in one alcove or on the chimney breast. We keep any vent in the chimney breast clear. People usually come to us about a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall and boxes and consoles on the floor; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Post-war houses often have a through lounge or a living room with a wide window at one end. Many homes around Eltham date from those decades, and TV and media units can give a room like that a focus. Low cupboards with shelves over them can sit beside or below the window, leaving any radiator clear.

Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Before and after fitting day

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. A few pointers help:

  • Think about whether you will upgrade the screen
  • Check each box’s guidance on ventilation and clearances
  • Let us know about access early
  • Talk to your electrician early about sockets

Once your equipment is in, check that it is not running hot. Don’t block the gaps and openings left for air with cables or clutter.

Avoid piling devices on one shelf, as they trap each other’s heat. Each one needs space around it.

Bespoke TV and media units or ready-made?

A bespoke unit isn’t instant: it needs a design visit, a quote and workshop time. For a short stay, a standalone stand can make more sense. Off-the-shelf furniture tends to leave gaps at the ends of a wall and space above it, while fitted furniture fills the space. The pieces are made to the room’s own widths.

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Questions we’re often asked

Can you make TV and media units for a home in Eltham?

Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London, and Eltham is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in Eltham?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Can you add sockets behind the TV?

We don’t do electrical work. Your electrician handles sockets and wiring. We tell you where the unit will sit so the sockets end up in the right place.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

What happens when you come to measure?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Living-room storage in Eltham

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Eltham were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 40%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 28%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how TV and media units are fixed and fitted. There are 40 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Eltham. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and TV and media units can be designed to work around them. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Greenwich included. Vans bringing furniture to Eltham fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Access and parking are talked through at the measuring visit.

Close to Horn Park? TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it. For families living near St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive School, shelving with deep cupboards below keeps books, games and school things in one place. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of Holy Trinity, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

Eltham is within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, about 3 miles north of Plumstead. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Eltham included. We cover places right across Greenwich, large and small.

Postcode districts we cover here for TV and media units: SE9, SE12, DA15 and BR7. Other places close to Eltham include Middle Park (1 mile west), New Eltham (1 mile south-east), Well Hall (1 mile north), Coldharbour (1 mile south) and Avery Hill (1 mile north-east). We also make TV and media units in nearby places such as Plumstead (3 miles north), Greenwich (3 miles north-west), Woolwich (3 miles north), Westcombe Park (3 miles north-west), Maze Hill (3 miles north-west) and Charlton (3 miles north). Fitting day, step by step

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Post-war houses tend to have straightforward halls and stairs, so carrying in is rarely difficult. The way in is still measured, along with the room. The pieces are assembled, levelled and fixed in place.

  1. You contact us with details of the room, the TV and your equipment, and where the sockets are now.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the wall and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish, for you to look over.
  4. The unit is built in our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in.
  5. Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.

Before we arrive

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Empty the space we’ll be working in

Getting a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

Advice

Flats, conversions and lettings

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them during the design visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
