About our TV and media units in Greenwich

Cables are the part most people want to hide. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. If you are living with standard units leaving gaps and equipment running hot in a closed cupboard, TV and media units made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Homes built since 2000 are often open-plan, with the kitchen, dining and living space in one room, and around Greenwich many homes date from those years. TV and media units can give the sitting end of an open-plan room its own identity. Floors are protected throughout, as newer finishes mark easily.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Could you do it yourself?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Shelves

Long shelves need the right thickness or a support so they stay straight.

Doors and drawer fronts

Cupboard doors keep equipment out of sight and are planned with ventilation where needed.

TV and media units for homes in Greenwich

Homes built before 1919 make up about 36% of the housing in the area around Greenwich, with about 35% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 4 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Greenwich. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so the rest of London is inside it. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Greenwich, as it does anywhere else in London. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.

If you live in a period home close to St Mary's Church, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. Queen's House, about 0.2 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.

Greenwich is within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, about 3 miles east of Plumstead. Wherever you are in Greenwich, the process is the same: a design visit, a written quote, furniture made at our workshop and fitting in your home. We cover places right across the rest of London.

We make TV and media units across the SE10, SE3 and SE8 postcode area for TV and media units. Whether you live on a street such as Cade Road, Webb Road and Creek Road or on one nearby, we can visit to measure up for TV and media units. Greenwich is near the A2203 and A2211, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you get in touch. Close by, we also work in Maze Hill (1 mile north-east), Vanbrugh Park Estate (1 mile east), Blackheath (1 mile south-east), Westcombe Park (1 mile east) and Isle of Dogs (1 mile north-west). Other parts of the rest of London we cover include Plumstead (3 miles east), Eltham (3 miles south-east), Woolwich (3 miles east), Well Hall (3 miles south-east), Coldharbour (4 miles south-east) and Charlton (2 miles east).

Near you in Greenwich

The streets we cover here include those near The Plume of Feathers pub, John Roan School and St. Paul's and the streets around them. There is a railway station in Greenwich itself: Maze Hill station. A little further out are Greenwich District Hospital (0.5 miles north-east) and Greenwich Castle (close by, under half a mile south-west). Green spaces nearby include Creekside Discovery Centre.

What prompts TV and media units in Greenwich

Boxes, consoles and routers on the floor are a familiar sight. A unit gives every box its own space, with air to keep it cool, and keeps the floor clear.

People normally get in touch with us about things like these:

  • Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
  • Somewhere to keep games tidy
  • Nowhere good for speakers
  • A TV that looks out of place in the room

If you live near Island Gardens, TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.

What to check before you book

  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • How parking will work on your street
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home

Caring for painted furniture

Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:

  • Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes
  • Decide whether the TV will be wall-mounted or stand on the unit
  • Talk to your electrician early about sockets
  • Think about the viewing height from your sofa

Once your equipment is in, check that it isn’t running hot. Keep vents, gaps and open backs clear of cables and clutter.

Avoid piling devices on one shelf because heat builds up between them. Each one needs space around it.

How fitting works for TV and media units

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop, a piece at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Corners and door frames are covered as well. The sections are assembled in the room.

  1. You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and how the unit should look in the room.
  3. A written quote follows, with the finish set out.
  4. We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. We fit it in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied once it’s in and is easy to touch up later.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Ask for a quote

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Advice

Questions from Greenwich

Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in Greenwich?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

I live near Maze Hill station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Can you plan for a future TV?

We can size the opening for the screen you might buy next. It helps to know the size you are thinking of.

How do I get a quote for TV and media units in Greenwich?

Just tell us about the room on our contact form. Rough sizes and a few pictures help, and we will arrange a design visit, followed by a written quote.

Will my boxes get too hot inside the unit?

Equipment gives off heat, so it needs air around it. The unit is planned with open backs or gaps where boxes go, rather than sealing it in a cupboard. Once it’s in, do not block the gaps.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
