TV and media units in Plumstead, Greenwich
In Plumstead, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. Your TV unit is designed at a visit to your home and made at our workshop.
- Empty alcoves beside the TV
- Speakers muffled behind doors
- Bought furniture that does not suit the room

Boards, parts and paint
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF has no grain to show through, so a painted TV unit looks calm and even. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice.
Birch plywood
For carcasses and drawer boxes, birch plywood is hard-wearing that stand up to daily use. Its layered edge can be painted or shown.

The screen size comes first. The opening is planned around your current TV, or a bigger one if you’re likely to upgrade, with a margin so it is not a tight squeeze. The height of the screen matters as well: we set it to suit the sofa, not the shape of the wall. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are cables trailing across the wall and equipment running hot in a closed cupboard.
Whether your home in Plumstead is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around your room rather than a standard size. Period rooms bring sloping floors and mouldings; newer rooms bring stud walls and service boxing. We measure for whichever you have, and the pieces are made to suit.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we’ve measured the way in.
What affects the price in Plumstead
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- How many doors and drawers there are
Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that is part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.
Before the design visit
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:
- How you want to use the space
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Any ideas or images you have saved
To make a start, use our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and a quote in writing follows.
Your questions about TV and media units in Plumstead
I live in a flat in Plumstead. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Does a conservation area in or near Plumstead affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?
If the TV is wall-mounted, we design the unit around the bracket position, with a route for the cables. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
It is something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.
From workshop to your room
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made at our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking varies a lot across London, from permit zones to private bays, so let us know what’s near you at the design visit. For a flat, building rules on lifts and working hours are worth checking.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go.
- We send a quote in writing with the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
- The unit is built in our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear.
Before fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
How to get a quote
Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, message us from the contact page and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Why people ask for TV and media units in Plumstead
In older living rooms, a TV can look out of place. Building it into the alcoves or around the chimney breast makes it part of the room, rather than the focus of it.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- Standard units leaving gaps
- Leads that show from every angle
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
- A screen at the wrong height
If you live near Plumstead Common, TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Real projects you can actually look at

Plumstead homes and TV and media units
About 39% of the homes in the area around Plumstead went up before 1919, and about 29% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Plumstead include The Old Vicarage (Grade II), under half a mile south-west, and Plumstead Fire Station (Grade II), about 0.5 miles east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The share of homes built before 1919 around Plumstead, about 39%, is well above the figure for Greenwich as a whole, about 22%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of TV and media units.
If you live in a flat close to Plumstead station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. The wider area includes historic houses such as Danson House, about 2.7 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.
