TV and media units for homes in Wealdstone
Set-top boxes, consoles and amplifiers give off heat, so equipment can’t simply be shut in a closed cupboard. We plan ventilation into the unit, with open backs, gaps or vented doors where they’re needed. It’s worth checking each maker’s guidance on clearances. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are space for a soundbar and speakers and wasted space around the screen.
A good part of the housing around Wealdstone is interwar, semi-detached or detached. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the front room may have a bay window at one end and a chimney breast on the side wall, which decides where TV and media units sit. Walls are often truer than in older houses, but they’re still measured carefully and scribed where they wander.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

How it is made
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish suits a TV unit in a period room. The colour is agreed with you.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Wide panels around a screen need to stay flat. MDF gives a smooth surface for a painted finish with crisp edges.

Wealdstone homes and TV and media units
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 37% of the housing in the area around Wealdstone, with about 29% built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 7 entries within half a mile of the centre of Wealdstone. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Harrow sets its own rules. If your street in Wealdstone is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay through the council may be needed. Tell us what the parking is like at the design visit.
If you live near Headstone Manor Recreation Ground, a room that looks out on trees deserves a design that leaves the window alone. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Magistrates Court, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Headstone Manor, about 0.9 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.
Wealdstone is about 2 miles south-west of Harrow, in the London Borough of Harrow. From period terraces to newer flats in Wealdstone, we measure the room as it is and design around it. In Harrow, Wealdstone is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 20 places on our list.

Could you do it yourself?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
How we price TV and media units
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- The overall size of the piece
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
What we need to know
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
To make a start, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Off-the-shelf TV units come in a few set colours. We paint ours in the colour you choose, by spray or by hand. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall normally ends with a gap, which fitted furniture avoids. It can use the full height too.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

From workshop to your room
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are normally straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To share them, drop us a line using the contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Related advice
Common questions about TV and media units
Is parking a problem for fitting in Wealdstone?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Does a conservation area in or near Wealdstone affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Should I send photos?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, message us from the contact page.
Do TV units need ventilation?
Media equipment runs warm and needs airflow. The unit is planned with open backs or gaps where boxes go, rather than sealing it in a cupboard. Once it is in, do not block the gaps.
Is the furniture made to order?
It’s built in our workshop. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
