Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Plumstead

About our walk-in wardrobes in Plumstead

A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. A corner or one end of a large bedroom can become a dressing area, with doors or left open. Any new partition wall is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about a built-in dressing table and a side each for a couple.

Older bedrooms bring bowed walls and high ceilings, newer ones stud walls and lower ceilings. A home in Plumstead might be either, or neither. Each is measured and fitted in its own way. The height of the room decides how tall the pieces can be.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

From workshop to your room

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we will have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You tell us about the room and what you want to store, from long coats to shoes.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers, including any dressing table.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish.
  4. We build everything in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room. We then check the doors and drawers with you.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Starting with a design visit

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, send us a few details through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Looking after your furniture

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Talk to your electrician early about lighting
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Think about long versus double hanging
  • Have a clear-out before we measure

Where we have fitted adjustable shelves, you can move them, so the space keeps working. A seasonal tidy keeps it working well.

Deal with any damp before the units go in. Cooler external walls can lead to condensation, so we allow for ventilation.

What it’s made from

Birch plywood

Shelves that carry piles of clothes need a strong board, and birch plywood suits them.

Doors and drawer fronts

A dressing table with drawers can be built in if the room allows.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Plumstead were built before 1919 (about 39%) and since 2000 (about 29%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. About 48% of households in the neighbourhood around Plumstead live in purpose-built flats, based on Census 2021. For a flat, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

If you live in a period home close to St John's Church, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If you live near Plumstead Common, walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. Danson House, about 2.7 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

What it costs

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.

What to send when you get in touch

When you contact us, these help most:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • How you want to use the space

For a quote for walk-in wardrobes in Plumstead, message us from the contact page. Tell us which room it is and roughly what you have in mind, plus any rough sizes. We’ll arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.

Questions from Plumstead

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Plumstead?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

I live near Plumstead station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Greenwich and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.

How much time does fitting need?

The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

What happens when you come to measure?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.
