Common questions about TV and media units
Do you cover homes near Elephant & Castle station?
Yes, homes across Southwark and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Walworth?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Is there room for a soundbar?
Speakers work best in open spaces rather than behind doors. A shelf under the TV suits a soundbar, and larger speakers suit open shelves at the sides. Bring the sizes to the design visit.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Do pictures help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.
TV and media units in Walworth: what you get
Hiding the cables is often the main aim. Cable routes are built into the design from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. Typical reasons to get in touch are equipment with nowhere proper to go and boxes with no ventilation, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
In a mansion block flat, ceilings are often tall and the walls are rarely straight, while a flat in a newer block is more likely to have plasterboard partitions. Around Walworth, most households live in purpose-built flats of one kind or another, so we check what each wall is made of before planning TV and media units. Whatever the wall, tall pieces are fixed back securely.
Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

What prompts TV and media units in Walworth
Others are tired of furniture that does not fit. Standard TV stands rarely suit an tricky wall, and a bespoke unit is made for the space.
If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:
- A TV that looks out of place in the room
- Cables trailing across the wall
- Space for a soundbar and speakers
- Standard units leaving gaps

Where other trades come in
Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Plastering or decorating around the unit
- Aerial, satellite or broadband installation
- Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

From workshop to your room
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. With little room to spare in a flat, pieces come in as they’re needed. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. The fixings suit each wall, whether solid or stud.
- To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The unit is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable openings and vents cut in.
- We fit it in your home and leave the cable routes ready for you to use.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Tell us about parking near your home

TV and media units in Walworth: local notes
About 33% of the homes in the streets around Walworth went up since 2000, and about 27% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Walworth, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Peter (Grade I), less than half a mile south, and English Martyrs School (part) (Grade II), under half a mile east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Purpose-built flats are home to about 78% of households in the area around Walworth, according to Census 2021. For a flat, TV and media units are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
For a flat near Elephant & Castle station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. Mansion House, about 1.6 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

How we price TV and media units
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It’s useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.
Helping us understand the room
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- How you want to use the space
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, use our contact form and tell us about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
Looking after your furniture
The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:
- Check where the seating will go
- Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes
- Check each box’s guidance on ventilation and clearances
- Measure your TV, or the size you expect to buy next
After setting up, check that the boxes aren’t getting too warm. Keep vents, gaps and open backs clear of cables and clutter.
Avoid piling devices on one shelf, as they trap each other’s heat. Each one needs space around it.
