Under-stairs storage for homes in Leyton Grange
We make each under-stairs cupboard in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes that carry weight, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and fronts. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it’s brought to your home in Leyton Grange and fitted. If you’re living with a sloping corner nobody can reach and an old cupboard door that doesn’t suit the hall, that is what under-stairs cupboards are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Outside walls in houses from before 1919 are normally solid brick, which can be cold, so storage against it is designed with ventilation behind. That matters around Leyton Grange, where a large share of the homes are that old. Damp should be sorted before anything is fitted against the wall.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Materials and finishes
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting on site lets the storage be finished alongside the woodwork around it. It’s easy to touch up later. Paint needs time to cure fully, so it’s best treated gently at first.
Spray-painted finish
For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. It’s applied in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.

Your questions about under-stairs storage in Leyton Grange
Is parking a problem for fitting in Leyton Grange?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
How do you fit under-stairs storage in a flat in Leyton Grange?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
What affects the price of under-stairs storage?
Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how awkward the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Do photos help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
What prompts under-stairs storage in Leyton Grange
Sometimes the reason is a meter reading or an engineer’s visit, and the struggle to reach the meter. Good storage can keep these in clear reach behind their own door, and the rest of the space can still work hard.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- A meter or fuse board buried behind clutter
- A tired under-stairs cupboard that stands out
- A staircase with untidy space beneath it
- No room for a small desk or a place to work
If you live in a flat close to Leyton Midland Road station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.
Before you choose who makes it

- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- How they handle walls that are not straight
Storage in Leyton Grange homes: local notes
In the area around Leyton Grange, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 63%) and the years since 2000 (about 16%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 3 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Leyton Grange. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Waltham Forest sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. We ask about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
If you live near Leyton Jubilee Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and under-stairs cupboards can give those things a place. The wider area includes historic houses such as Sutton House, about 1.7 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, the triangle under an old staircase is often deeper than it looks.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
What we don’t do
We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:
- Painting the hallway walls and ceiling
- Altering or cutting into the stairs
- Electrical work under the stairs, which your electrician carries out
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. How it works.

- Coat hooks and shoe shelves
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
- Pull-out drawers
What happens on fitting day
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the space and the number of drawers and doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- You get in touch and describe the stairs and the hall.
- We visit to measure the space at several points along the slope, as stairs and walls are rarely square in older houses.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The drawers, doors and carcasses are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angle of the stairs.
- On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to follow the stairs and walls. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or painted by hand once it is in.
Before we arrive
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
