Walk-in wardrobes in Berrylands

Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Berrylands

Couples sharing a wardrobe often want more space each. A walk-in wardrobe can be planned with a side for each, so neither of you is squeezed.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • Proper shoe storage
  • Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
  • A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom
  • Separate space for two people’s clothes

Hampton Court Palace, about 2.4 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • How doors and drawers are fitted

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Berrylands

Many London homes have a small room that is tricky as a bedroom. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. The layout leaves room to move and to see what you have. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a use for a small spare room and shelves for shoes and bags.

Bedrooms in interwar houses often have a picture rail but a plainer ceiling than a Victorian room, so fitted furniture can often run neatly to the ceiling. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Berrylands, high cupboards make a good home for suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Berrylands homes and walk-in wardrobes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 68% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Berrylands, with about 13% built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Berrylands include Christ Church (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If you live on or close to a main road in Berrylands, let us know at the measuring visit. We will plan where the van can stop.

Close to Beverley Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. If you live in a flat close to Berrylands station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Berrylands is in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, about 2 miles north-west of Kingston upon Thames. Whether your home in Berrylands is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our Kingston upon Thames coverage includes Berrylands.

Postcode districts we cover here for walk-in wardrobes: KT5, KT3 and KT6. If your home is on a street such as Park Road, The Avenue and Regent Road, or close by, we can visit to measure up for walk-in wardrobes. We also cover Tolworth (1 mile south), Surbiton (1 mile west) and Chessington (2 miles south). Across the rest of Kingston upon Thames, our area takes in Kingston upon Thames (2 miles north-west), Hampton Wick (2 miles north-west), Hook (2 miles south-west), Motspur Park (2 miles north-east), Coombe (2 miles north-east) and Barwell (3 miles south-west).

Around Berrylands

We fit furniture in homes around The Hollyfield School and Sixth Form Centre, Coronation Hall pub and Kingston School of Art, among other places. There’s a railway station in Berrylands itself: Berrylands station. A little further out are Bentall Centre (1.5 miles north-west) and Tolworth Hospital (1.1 miles south). For a walk, there’s Raeburn Open Space.

How it’s made

Moisture-resistant MDF

We use moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, giving a smooth finish.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done in your home, once the units are fitted. It is easy to touch up later.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Berrylands

Is parking a problem for fitting in Berrylands?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Berrylands station?

Yes, homes across Kingston upon Thames and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on, so check it or ask your managing agent.

Should a walk-in wardrobe have doors?

There is no single right answer. Doors, open rails and shelves can all be combined, and we go through the options when we measure.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
  3. A quote in writing follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Getting a quote

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, fill in our short enquiry form and let us know about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Practical tips

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • Know what you’ll keep before planning
  • Think about where shoes and bags will go
  • Make sure walls are dry before units go in
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first

New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners.

If you want a partition to create the walk-in wardrobe, talk to a builder first. We fit the furniture once the room is ready.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising during the design visit.

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
