Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Bromley Common

Ventilation matters in a room full of clothes, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, so we allow for it in the design. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about the right mix of long and short hanging and a dressing area in part of a bedroom.

In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, bedrooms range from box rooms to large rooms with bays and sloping ceilings. Walk-in wardrobes can work in any of them, from a small spare room to a main bedroom. Nothing is assumed to be square, so the room is measured carefully.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the walk-in wardrobe designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Bromley Common

I live near Bickley station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Bromley Common?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.

Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?

Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, particularly on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.

Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?

In many homes, yes. We can line a small room with hanging, shelving and drawers and still leave room to move. We check the room during the design visit.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.

What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Fixing the cause of damp
  • Structural changes or removing walls
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

How fitting day works

At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift along with the room itself, so walk-in wardrobes arrive in sections that fit through. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the room.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through hanging, shoe storage and a dressing table, planned around the way you get dressed.
  3. You receive a quote in writing, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.

How to prepare

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

How to get a quote

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Advice

What it costs

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How square the room is

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

These details help when you contact us:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.

Is bespoke worth it?

A bespoke walk-in wardrobe takes more planning than buying a system, and it costs more. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. Few rooms have truly flat walls and level floors, so standalone furniture can lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit, and the quote follows.

What you get with us

  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Work across the whole of London
  • More than 300 projects completed

Bromley Common homes and walk-in wardrobes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 28% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Bromley Common, with about 23% built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Bromley Common include Oakley House (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east, and Turpington Farmhouse (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. A quarter or more of the homes in the streets around Bromley Common (about 28%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.

Bromley Palace, about 1.5 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For a flat near Bickley station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If you live in a period home close to Holy Trinity Church, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
