Walk-in wardrobes in Penge

Walk-in wardrobes in Penge: what you get

A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. It can be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is made at our workshop and fitted to the room, scribed to the walls and set level. Typical reasons to get in touch are shelves for shoes and bags and the right mix of long and short hanging, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

In houses built before 1919, a floor can drop noticeably from one side of a room to the other, and a large share of the homes around Penge are that old. Pieces stand on a levelled plinth or adjustable feet, so the doors line up and the gaps run straight. Where the wall bows, the edge is scribed to follow it.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

I live near Penge West station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

How do you fit walk-in wardrobes in a flat in Penge?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

What we don’t do

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Painting the walls of the room
  • New lights or sockets
  • Structural changes or removing walls

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Penge

About 47% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Penge went up before 1919, and about 20% between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. The Crystal Palace Park Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Penge. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Bromley is inside it. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Penge is covered by it. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as The White House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live near Crystal Palace Dinosaurs, walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Fitting day, step by step

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and what you want to store.
  2. We come to measure the room and go through how the space should work, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. Everything is made and finished in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The units are fitted in your home and trimmed to follow the walls.

Preparing the room

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Getting a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

For a sleek finish, spray painting works well, and it’s finished before fitting day.

Hanging rails

Double hanging puts one rail above another suit shirts, jackets and trousers.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Penge

Some people want a calmer bedroom. Moving clothes into a separate space leaves the bedroom simpler and quieter to look at.

We are often asked to help with:

  • A side each for a couple
  • A built-in dressing table
  • Somewhere for shoes to live
  • A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom

For a family home near Harris Primary Academy Crystal Palace, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

What to check before you book

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work

Practical tips

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Have a clear-out before we measure
  • Think about where shoes and bags will go
  • Talk to your electrician early about lighting
  • Consider a mix of doors and open shelves

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can be touched in. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth.

If the room is on an external wall, have any damp sorted first. External walls can be colder and damper, so we allow for ventilation.
