Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Orpington

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Orpington

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Orpington and across London. It starts with a design visit to measure and plan the layout, followed by a quote. Everything is made at our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know before we start. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are room for two wardrobes in one space and shelves for shoes and bags.

In a 1930s semi, the main bedroom often sits over the front room and its bay, so fitted storage typically goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Orpington, so it is a room shape worth planning for. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the walk-in wardrobe designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Questions we’re often asked

I live near St Mary Cray station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Orpington?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It’s something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.

Boards, parts and paint

Birch plywood

Long shelves in a dressing room need to stay straight, and birch plywood suits them.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting in the room lets the units match the doors and skirting.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix

Not everything around walk-in wardrobes is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Structural changes or removing walls
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Curing damp in the walls

Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can send us a few details through our contact form and we will tell you. How it works.

What it is made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Shoe storage
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hanging, shelves and drawers
  • Dressing table
  • Hand-painted finish

Why bespoke in Orpington?

A bespoke walk-in wardrobe takes more planning than buying a system, and it costs more. In return, the layout is built around your clothes and your room. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall usually ends with a gap, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.

What you get with us

  • Work across the whole of London
  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • Built around your room
  • Saturdays by prior arrangement

Fitted bedroom furniture in Orpington

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 39% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Orpington, with about 31% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. The National Heritage List records 10 entries within half a mile of the centre of Orpington. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. About 39% of homes in the area around Orpington date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.

For families living near Perry Hall Primary School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live near Jubilee Country Park, walk-in wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. For an older house near St Andrew's, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

From workshop to your room

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the room. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
  3. You receive a written quote, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made in our workshop.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.

Preparing the room

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
