Coldblow Walk-in Wardrobes

In Coldblow, we design walk-in wardrobes around the room you actually have. Your walk-in wardrobe is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.

  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • Somewhere to sit and get ready
  • Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom

Walk-in wardrobes in Coldblow

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Coldblow

Most designs start with the hanging. Full-length hanging takes coats, dresses and long garments, while double hanging, one rail above another, fits shirts and jackets into half the height. We plan the mix around what you actually wear. Typical reasons to get in touch are a side each for a couple and storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Bedrooms in interwar houses often have a picture rail but a plainer ceiling than a Victorian room, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. Around Coldblow, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses are a big part of the housing, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Questions we are often asked

Is Coldblow in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes, we work across Bexley, Coldblow included, and across the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Do you cover homes near Bexley station?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you drop us a line using the contact form.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Is a box room big enough for a walk-in wardrobe?

Often, yes. It depends on the room’s shape and where the door and window sit. We plan it at the design visit.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Is bespoke worth it?

If you are likely to move soon, standalone furniture you can take with you may suit better. How long you will stay is worth weighing up before choosing fitted. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and those are common in interwar houses. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, then set it out in the quote.

Materials and finishes

Hanging rails

Hanging rails can be set for long or double hanging, based on what you wear.

Shelves

We plan shelving for knitwear, bags and things you use less often. Each shelf is sized for its load.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the room. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
  2. We visit, measure and talk through hanging, shoe storage and a dressing table.
  3. A written quote is sent to you.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.

Preparing the room

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Ask for a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Getting consent under your lease
  • Building work to create the room
  • Making good walls and ceilings

Bedroom storage in Coldblow

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 44% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Coldblow, with about 22% built between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Coldblow include Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin (Grade II*), under half a mile north-west, and The Manor House (Grade II), less than half a mile north-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Bexley sets its own rules. If your road in Coldblow falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning at the design visit.

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mary the Virgin, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For a family home near Maypole Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. Close to Braeburn Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.
