Fitted wardrobes across DA5: what to expect

Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Most enquiries start with wardrobes that are full to bursting and wasted space beside the chimney breast; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

How our quotes work

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit, and the quote follows.

Why householders in DA5 choose us

  • A design visit, then a written quote
  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • Saturdays by arrangement

Arranging a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.

Bedroom storage across DA5

In DA5, a spare room often doubles as a study or a guest room. Fitted wardrobes can be planned so the room switches between them.

In the DA5 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 29%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Around a third of the homes in the DA5 postcode district (about 34%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. A quarter or more of the homes in the DA5 postcode district (about 29%) were built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Post-war bedrooms are usually simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in DA5 are well within our area. If you’re unsure about access or parking, mention it when you contact us.

Bexley: Close to Danson Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. Red House, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Caring for painted furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:

  • Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • Let us know about any damp you have seen on bedroom walls
  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations

If you have sliding doors, keep the bottom track clear of dust and fluff so the doors run smoothly. Don’t let shoes or bags sit in the track.

Close doors gently and do not let them swing into furniture, and keep sliding doors from crashing into the ends. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.

What it costs

There is no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • How many doors and drawers there are

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A larger piece means more material and more time. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What to send when you get in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Bought wardrobes come in the maker’s finishes. Fitted wardrobes are painted in a colour agreed with you, spray painted or hand painted. Bespoke work does take longer than buying from a shop, because of the design visit, the quote and the making.

What to check before you book

  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?

Flats, leases and landlords

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route during the design visit.

Where other trades come in

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Structural changes to the room
  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in DA5

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough sizes. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. The price comes in a written quote after the design visit.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That’s why we measure the route, not just the room. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.

How do I get a quote?

The first step is to drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a quote in writing.
