Belvedere Walk-in Wardrobes

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Belvedere, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
  • Room for two wardrobes in one space
  • A walk-in wardrobe in a box room

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Belvedere

Ventilation matters in a room full of clothes, particularly on an external wall, which can be colder than internal walls. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, so we allow for it in the design. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a side each for a couple and moving wardrobes out of the bedroom.

The positions of the window, the radiator and the door shape a bedroom more than its size. Whatever kind of home you have in Belvedere, we start there, and fitted furniture is planned around them. Furniture is kept clear of radiators so the room stays warm.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Caring for painted furniture

Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Have a clear-out before we measure
  • Count your coats and long garments
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners.

Plan any lighting with your electrician in good time. New lights and wiring are for them, and the units can be designed around the lighting.

From workshop to your room

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home.
  2. We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. We build the carcasses, drawers and shelves in our workshop.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand

Arranging a design visit

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, tell us about the room on our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

Advice

Questions from Belvedere

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Belvedere?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?

Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. We design the units to let air move, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.

How are walk-in wardrobes priced?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What happens during the design visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.

Could you do it yourself?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf wardrobe systems are quicker to get and normally cost less, and in a simple room they may suit. In an older room with uneven walls and a sloping floor, they leave gaps. Ours is built to the room’s real shape. Recesses, sloping ceilings and tricky corners are where ready-made furniture struggles most, and most homes have one somewhere. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Belvedere homes and walk-in wardrobes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 26% of the housing in the streets around Belvedere, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The centre of Belvedere is within about a quarter of a mile of the Erith Road Conservation Area. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your street in Belvedere joins a main road, it’s worth telling us during the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live near Lesnes Abbey Woods, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Red House, about 2.3 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Belvedere is in the London Borough of Bexley, about 4 miles south-west of Sidcup. Whether your home in Belvedere is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Belvedere is one of 27 places on our list for Bexley.

Design visits and fitting in DA17, DA8 and DA18 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If your home is on a street such as Cray Road, Adit Road and Clive Road, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for walk-in wardrobes. Close by, we also work in Lessness Heath (1 mile west), Erith (1 mile south-east), Northumberland Heath (1 mile south-east), Bexley Riverside (1 mile south-east) and West Heath (1 mile south-west). Across the rest of Bexley, our area takes in Sidcup (4 miles south-west), Welling (3 miles south-west), Bexley (3 miles south), Bexleyheath (2 miles south), Albany Park (5 miles south-west) and Thamesmead (2 miles north-west). Being one of the larger places in Bexley, Belvedere is covered for walk-in wardrobes and everything else we make.

Around Belvedere

Our area takes in the homes around Priory Club pub, Trinity School and Trinity Church of England School. Belvedere’s nearest station is Belvedere station, about 0.5 miles north of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Erith and District Hospital (0.8 miles south-east) and Erith Museum (1.1 miles east). For a walk, there is Crossness Nature Reserve.

The problems walk-in wardrobes solve

A spare room or box room that rarely gets used is another reason. Fitted out as a walk-in wardrobe, it becomes part of everyday life than keeping a bed in it.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Separate space for two people’s clothes
  • Shelves for shoes and bags
  • Turning a box room into a dressing room
  • A bedroom without crowded wardrobes

For a family home near Lessness Heath Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
