Welling Walk-in Wardrobes
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Welling starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.
- The right mix of long and short hanging
- Somewhere to sit and get ready
- Room for a growing wardrobe
Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Welling
A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. We make it all in our workshop and fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about somewhere to sit and get ready and separate space for two people’s clothes.
A good part of the housing around Welling is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Many 1930s houses have a small box room over the stairs, often with a raised bulkhead in the floor. The main bedroom may have a bay at the front and a chimney breast on the side wall.
The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Welling
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Parking near your home
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- How big the furniture is
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
What to send when you contact us
You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:
- How you want to use the space
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

What else we make in Welling
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the design visit.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Fitted bedroom furniture in Welling
In the area around Welling, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 75%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 9%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Welling include Danson Park Mansion (Grade I), less than half a mile south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. More than half of the homes in the area around Welling (about 75%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.
Danson House, about 0.4 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If your home is one of the older houses near St John's Church, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For families living near Danson Primary School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
Welling is part of the London Borough of Bexley, about 2 miles south of Sidcup. We cover Welling as part of our work across Bexley, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Our work takes in places right across Bexley.
In DA16, DA15 and DA6, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets like Days Lane, Hook Lane and Lyme Road, along with the roads around them, for walk-in wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. Welling is near the A207, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you contact us. If you’re just outside Welling, we also cover Crook Log (1 mile east), Blendon (1 mile south-east), Upton (1 mile east), Bexleyheath (1 mile east) and West Heath (1 mile north-east). We also make walk-in wardrobes in nearby places such as Sidcup (2 miles south), Erith (3 miles north-east), Belvedere (3 miles north-east), Northumberland Heath (3 miles east), Lessness Heath (3 miles north-east) and Albany Park (2 miles south). As one of the bigger places in Bexley, Welling is covered for walk-in wardrobes and everything else we make.

Before and after fitting day
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Think about whether you want doors
- Make sure walls are dry before units go in
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Measure how much long hanging you need
Let air move through the walk-in wardrobe, particularly if it’s on an external wall. Avoid packing clothes tight against the back of the units to help air move.
Deal with any damp before the units go in. External walls can be colder and damper, and ventilation inside the units helps.
Fitting day, step by step
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made at our workshop come in next. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Interwar houses normally have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Walk-in wardrobes arrive in sections and are assembled in place.
- You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
- We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
- You receive a written quote for the walk-in wardrobe.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
Arranging a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To arrange the visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Advice
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made wardrobe systems are easy to buy and often cheaper, and in a simple room they may suit. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely fit neatly. Ours is built to the room’s real shape. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors aren’t perfectly true, and standalone units can lean or gap. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It helps to talk about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

Questions we are often asked
Do you cover homes near Welling station?
Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room.
Is Welling in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?
Yes, Welling is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bexley and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
Should a walk-in wardrobe have doors?
There is no single right answer. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we go through the options when we measure.
Can a box room become a walk-in wardrobe?
In many cases, yes. The layout depends on the room, the door and the window, so we work it out when we measure.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
It is made in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.
