How we make walk-in wardrobes for Cranham
Many London homes have a small room that is tricky as a bedroom. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a dressing area in part of a bedroom and room for two wardrobes in one space.
A good part of the housing around Cranham is interwar, semi-detached or detached. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the box room over the stairs is a classic spot for fitted furniture, and the bulkhead is built around rather than ignored. Main bedrooms from that era are often a good size, with a bay window at the front.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

How we price walk-in wardrobes
There is no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- Parking near your home
- The internal fittings
- The number of doors and drawers
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
What we need to know
Ahead of the design visit, we’ll typically ask about:
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Any ideas or images you have saved
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Materials and finishes
Hanging rails
We plan rails for full-length garments and for double hanging, based on what you wear.
Doors and drawer fronts
A dressing table with drawers can be built in if the room allows.
Bedroom storage in Cranham
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Cranham were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 64%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 21%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Cranham, Historic England’s list includes Upminster Hall (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling may need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Havering is inside it. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Cranham. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.
For an older house near St Luke's Cranham, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. For a flat near Upminster station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
Cranham is about 4 miles west of Romford, within the London Borough of Havering. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Cranham is part of that. Cranham is one of the places in Havering where we make walk-in wardrobes, and the borough has 22 places on our list.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Upminster station?
Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Cranham?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
It’s made in sections. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.
- First, you let us know about the space and how you dress.
- We come to measure the room and go through how the space should work, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
- A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
- We build the carcasses, drawers and shelves in our workshop.
- We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.
How to prepare
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
Starting with a design visit
To make a start, use our contact form and tell us a little about the room. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a quote in writing follows.
Advice
Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Cranham

We’re often asked to help with:

- Turning a box room into a dressing room
Hare Hall, about 3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
