Need walk-in wardrobes in Upminster Bridge?
Could you do it yourself?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
Walk-in wardrobes in Upminster Bridge: what you get
A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. If your home has separate space for two people’s clothes and long and double hanging planned around your clothes, walk-in wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage usually goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Upminster Bridge, so that shape of room is worth knowing. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Questions we are often asked
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Upminster Bridge?
Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London, and Upminster Bridge is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Upminster station?
Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
From workshop to your room
You won’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we will have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You let us know about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
- A written quote follows.
- The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
- Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
Before we arrive
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Ask for a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Fitted storage stays with the house when you move. How long you’ll stay is worth weighing up before you decide. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.
