Fitted wardrobes in RM3: how it works
Wardrobes can be built around a bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. Others work around a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. Typical reasons to get in touch are clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made at our workshop come in next. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You send us a few details about the room and the storage you need, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
- We visit to measure the room and discuss the design.
- Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
What goes into your quote
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.

Homes across RM3 and their bedrooms
From Gallows Corner, Ardleigh Green and Emerson Park to the quieter streets, bedrooms across RM3 range from box rooms to large rooms with bays. Fitted wardrobes are made for the room you have, using the full height where it helps. Hanging, shelves and drawers inside are arranged around what you store.
Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 36% of the housing in the RM3 postcode district, with about 35% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Around a third of the homes in RM3 (about 35%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. Around a third of the homes in the RM3 postcode district (about 36%) were built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Post-war bedrooms are usually simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick.
We cover the whole of London, so homes in RM3 are well within our area. If you’re unsure about access or parking, mention it when you contact us.
Gallows Corner: For a flat near Gidea Park station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For a family home near Royal Liberty School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
When you need someone else
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
Pricing fitted wardrobes in RM3
Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- The number of doors and drawers
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
What to send when you contact us
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
To get a quote for fitted wardrobes in RM3, tell us about the room on our contact form. Let us know the room and the rough idea. Next comes a design visit, followed by a written quote.
The problems fitted wardrobes solve
For some, it’s about a calmer room. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces, and everything has a place behind it.
We’re often asked to help with:
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- A tight bedroom where doors get in the way
- A bedroom that never feels tidy
- A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
Your questions about fitted wardrobes in RM3
What are your fitted wardrobes made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job best. The materials are named in your written quote.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Is the furniture made to order?
We make it in our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It makes good use of space that’s hard to furnish.
Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?
That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better. We’ll look at the room with you at the design visit.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.
