Walk-in wardrobes in Enfield Island Village

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes

There’s no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The internal fittings
  • The width and height of the space
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That’s reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.

What we need to know

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Enfield Island Village

A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, with doors or left open. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that’s for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. Typical reasons to get in touch are a built-in dressing table and moving wardrobes out of the bedroom, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

In a home built since 2000, stud walls may hide pipes and cables, so the walls are checked before anything is fixed. Many homes around Enfield Island Village date from 2000 onwards, so this check is routine. Tall pieces are tied into the studs, not just the board.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Could you do it yourself?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Enfield Island Village

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Enfield Island Village were built since 2000 (about 37%) and before 1919 (about 21%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 9 entries within half a mile of the centre of Enfield Island Village. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. About 37% of homes around Enfield Island Village were built since 2000, well above the figure for Enfield as a whole, about 11%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That makes plasterboard stud walls and compact rooms more likely, which shapes the fixings and sizes.

The wider area includes historic houses like Forty Hall, about 2.3 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If you live in a flat close to Enfield Lock station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If you live near Gunpowder Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

How it is made

Doors and drawer fronts

A dressing table with drawers can be built in where there’s space.

Birch plywood

Long shelves in a dressing room need to stay straight, and birch plywood suits them.

What happens on fitting day

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

  1. First, you tell us about the space and how you dress.
  2. We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. The units are made at our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Flats, conversions and lettings

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
