Loft storage in Enfield Island Village
How we make loft storage for Enfield Island Village
Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so every section built in our workshop fits up the stairs. It is part of the job for any loft room in Enfield Island Village. If you are living with an empty dormer that could hold shelves and a loft room with too many jobs, eaves cupboards made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.
In a home built since 2000, there are often spaces the builder left plain, like a recess, a landing corner or an empty cupboard. Many homes around Enfield Island Village date from 2000 onwards, so spaces like that are worth a second look. Drawers and shelves can make use of the full depth.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

Questions we’re often asked
Is parking a problem for fitting in Enfield Island Village?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.
Do you cover homes near Enfield Lock station?
Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Which materials go into your loft storage?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
How do you get large pieces into a loft?
We measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft room. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and the pieces are put together in the room.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Enfield Island Village were built since 2000 (about 37%) and before 1919 (about 21%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 9 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Enfield Island Village. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Enfield is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Enfield Island Village fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.
Close to Gunpowder Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. For a family home near Prince of Wales Primary School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.

Boards, parts and paint
Moisture-resistant MDF
A loft room can see more change in temperature than other rooms, so a stable material matters. It gives a smooth base for paint. It’s used for most of the visible parts.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done on site once the storage is in. It’s easy to touch up if it gets marked. That helps in a well-used bedroom.
When you need someone else
It is worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
- Converting the loft itself, which is not our work
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What happens on fitting day
You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Door frames and corners get covers too. The sections are assembled in the room.
- First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store, including the eaves and any dormer.
- We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft, as everything has to get up there.
- We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a written quote, with the finish set out.
- The storage is made at our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs. It’s made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.
Preparing the room
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
How to get a quote
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Related advice
Is it time for loft storage?
Loft rooms that double as offices or guest rooms need places for things. Storage in the eaves leaves the main floor clear.
Here’s what loft storage can help with:
- Furniture that cannot get up to the loft
- Needing storage in a loft office
- Low eaves that nobody can use
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
Living in a block of flats near Enfield Lock station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.
What to check before you book
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Real projects you can actually look at
- How doors and drawers are fitted
Is bespoke worth it?
If you only need a few boxes in a boarded loft, standalone shelving may be enough. Bespoke work makes sense in a converted loft room, where the storage is part of the room. We will give you an honest view at the design visit. Large off-the-shelf pieces can make a small room feel smaller, whereas fitted pieces painted to suit the walls sit back into the space.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
