Wall beds in Enfield Lock
A home office that doubles as a guest room is a common request. A wall bed with a desk or shelves beside it lets the room do both, without the bed taking over. We can allow for cables to the desk, while new sockets are for your electrician. Typical reasons to get in touch are a storage wall with a bed inside and a hobby room with a bed for guests, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a 1930s semi, the main bedroom often sits over the front room and its bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Around Enfield Lock, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so that shape of room is worth knowing. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

What it costs
The price for your room depends on:
- How square the room is
- The internal fittings
- The number of doors and drawers
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
What we need to know
Ahead of the design visit, we will normally ask about:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- How you want to use the space
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Examples of the look you are after
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
What happens on fitting day
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You get in touch and describe the room.
- At the design visit we plan the bed cabinet and check the stairs, landings and any lift. Mention parking as well, since vans often need a permit or a paid bay.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The cabinet is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
- The cabinet is joined in the room, fixed securely and set level.
How to prepare
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Keep pets in another room while we work
Ask for a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.
Bedrooms in Enfield Lock: local notes
In the area around Enfield Lock, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 36%) and the years since 2000 (about 20%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Enfield Lock is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. Terraced houses are home to about 35% of households in the streets around Enfield Lock, based on Census 2021. Terraced houses often have a narrow back bedroom and alcoves either side of a chimney breast, both good spaces for fitted storage.
If your home is one of the older houses near Ss Peter and Paul Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design. Living in a block of flats near Enfield Lock station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

FAQs: wall beds in Enfield Lock
Can you make wall beds for a home in Enfield Lock?
Yes. Enfield Lock is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Enfield and London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do you cover homes near Enfield Lock station?
Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Can a wall bed go on any wall?
It depends on the wall and floor. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, and we look at this when we measure.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Do you need wall beds in Enfield Lock?
A flexible room is useful as needs change. We often hear from people who want a playroom or study that can still sleep guests when it’s needed.
Wall beds can help with:

- A storage wall with a bed inside
