About our walk-in wardrobes in Forestdale
Many London homes have a small room that is tricky as a bedroom. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. If your home has long and double hanging planned around your clothes and a dressing area in part of a bedroom, walk-in wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
Some post-war homes have lightweight partitions between bedrooms, and tall furniture stands on the floor, tied back where the wall is strong enough. Because many homes around Forestdale date from between 1945 and the early 1970s, each wall is checked before anything is designed. Loads are planned so nothing depends on a weak wall.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Flats, leases and landlords
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
From workshop to your room
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Estates sometimes have their own parking rules alongside the council’s, so let us know what applies at the design visit. On the day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
- A quote in writing follows.
- The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
- We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.
Before we arrive
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Starting with a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To book one, message us from the contact page.

Walk-in wardrobes in Forestdale: local notes
Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 53% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Forestdale, with about 37% built between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Croydon are set locally. If your road in Forestdale falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know about parking during the design visit. About 53% of homes in the streets around Forestdale were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Post-war bedrooms are usually simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall.
If you live in a period home close to St Francis, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. Addington Palace, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near Addington Park, walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Forestdale
Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:
- The number of doors and drawers
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How square the room is
- The width and height of the space
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. Tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so it can be planned.
Before the design visit
When you contact us, these help most:
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
It is useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
Questions from Forestdale
Is parking a problem for fitting in Forestdale?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
I live near Sanderstead station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
How much time does fitting need?
Every room is different. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you will know before we start.
Can a walk-in wardrobe be part of a bedroom?
Yes. We design the units to make a dressing area within the bedroom, while any new walls are for your builder.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
The furniture is built in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.
Caring for painted furniture
Looking after painted furniture is simple. These habits help most:
- Keep the room ventilated
- Talk to your electrician early about lighting
- Know what you will keep before planning
- Count your shoes before the design visit
We adjust doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.
It is useful to know what you’ll keep before we measure. We plan the layout around your clothes, so it is worth having a sort-out first.
