Walk-in wardrobes in Broad Green: local notes

In the neighbourhood around Broad Green, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 38%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 22%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 5 entries within half a mile of the centre of Broad Green. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Croydon sets its own rules. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. We ask about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Saviour, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. Living in a block of flats near West Croydon station? Then walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. For a family home near Elmwood Infant School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Walk-in wardrobes in Broad Green: what you get

A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. A corner or one end of a large bedroom can become a dressing area, either open to the room or behind doors. Any new partition wall is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. Most enquiries start with a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom and a bedroom without crowded wardrobes; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, bedrooms range from box rooms to large rooms with bays and sloping ceilings. Walk-in wardrobes can work in any of them, from a small spare room to a main bedroom. Nothing is assumed to be square, so the room is measured carefully.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

Caring for painted furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Let air move through the space
  • Plan lighting with your electrician
  • Count your shoes before the design visit
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first

Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

Before the design visit, sort through your clothes. The amount of long hanging, double hanging, shelving and shoe storage depends on what you own, so it’s worth having a sort-out first.

Fitting day, step by step

You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; for a house, steps, paths and parking are the things to mention. We plan the details of the day during the design visit. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Starting with a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, message us from the contact page.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Is parking a problem for fitting in Broad Green?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do you cover homes near West Croydon station?

Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We’ll design around them.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

Is it better to have doors or open storage?

There is no single right answer. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we go through the options when we measure.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It is made in sections, sized for the route not just the room. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Honest limits

Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Damp treatment or repairs
  • Painting the walls of the room
  • New lights or sockets
