Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Coombe

Questions we are often asked

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Coombe?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Coombe?

Yes, we work across Croydon, Coombe included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details.

How much time does fitting need?

Every room is different. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

What finishes do you offer?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Coombe

Lighting makes a big difference in a dressing room, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We plan the units with your electrician’s work in mind, and agree the details at the measuring visit. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about proper shoe storage and a built-in dressing table.

Wide windows with a radiator below are common in homes from the 1950s and 1960s, so storage typically goes on the walls beside or opposite. Many homes around Coombe were built in the post-war decades, so it’s a layout worth planning for. Nothing is built tight over the radiator, so it keeps heating the room.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

Boards, parts and paint

Spray-painted finish

For a sleek finish, spray painting works well, and it’s done before fitting.

Moisture-resistant MDF

The moisture-resistant grade suits walk-in wardrobes on external walls, alongside good ventilation.

Fitting day, step by step

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fixing into concrete takes a heavy-duty drill and makes some noise, so if neighbours are close, a note before fitting day can help. We work within any rules your building has on noise and hours. We tidy as we go.

  1. You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and check how the units will reach the room.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
  5. We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

How to get a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Coombe homes and walk-in wardrobes

About 43% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Coombe went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 36% between 1973 and 1999, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Coombe, Historic England’s list includes Lodge to Combe House (st Margaret's School) (Grade II), under half a mile south-west, and Coombe House (st Margaret's School) (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 43% of homes in the area around Coombe were built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Post-war bedrooms are usually simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick.

Addington Palace, about 1.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. If your children go to Coombe Wood School or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. Close to Addington Hills? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

What it costs

What you pay depends on:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Helping us understand the room

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • How you want to use the space
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
