- A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom
Walk-in wardrobes in Kidbrooke
Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Kidbrooke?
After a loft conversion or a change of layout, a room may be left without a clear use. Many people choose to fit it out as a dressing room.
Requests we hear often include:
- Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
- A bedroom without crowded wardrobes
- Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe
- A walk-in wardrobe in a box room
For a family home near Henwick Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
Before you choose who makes it
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Kidbrooke
With a walk-in wardrobe, clothes, shoes and bags have a space to themselves. It can be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is made in our workshop and fitted to the room, so it follows the walls and sits level. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a bedroom without crowded wardrobes and a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom.
A good part of the housing around Kidbrooke is interwar, semi-detached or detached. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the box room over the stairs is a classic spot for fitted furniture, and the bulkhead is built around rather than ignored. Main bedrooms from that era are often a good size, with a bay window at the front.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Materials and finishes
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors can be flat, framed or panelled, painted to match. Some areas can be left open.
Hanging rails
We plan rails for full-length garments and for double hanging to suit your clothes.
Fitting day, step by step
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are normally straightforward, though we still measure the route in not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it’s going.
- You tell us about the room.
- We come to measure and discuss the design.
- You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
- We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
- Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
Before we arrive
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Starting with a design visit
A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Related advice
Flats, leases and landlords
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the measuring visit.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Kidbrooke
Do you cover homes near Kidbrooke station?
Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Kidbrooke?
Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London, and Kidbrooke is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we quote once we have measured. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form.
Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?
Yes, where the room is large enough. A section of the room can become a dressing area, open or behind doors. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.
Where other trades come in
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Lighting and wiring, which are for your electrician
- Plastering, decorating or flooring
- Fixing the cause of damp
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Kidbrooke
In the area around Kidbrooke, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 60%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 13%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Part of Kidbrooke is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Kidbrooke. How the van gets to your door is planned during the design visit.
Near listed buildings like Coronet Cinema, about 0.5 miles south-east of the centre of Kidbrooke, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. The wider area includes historic houses like Eltham Palace, about 1.3 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
