Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Eltham

Our walk-in wardrobes are made for homes in Eltham and all over London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, then a quote in writing. Everything is made at our workshop and fitted in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you’ll know before we start. If your home has hanging for coats, dresses and shirts and separate space for two people’s clothes, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Post-war bedrooms often have a wide window with a radiator underneath, which leaves the other walls for storage. Around Eltham, many homes date from between 1945 and the early 1970s, so we expect to plan around a radiator. Furniture is kept clear of the radiator so the heat reaches the room.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Where other trades come in

Not everything around walk-in wardrobes is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Painting the walls of the room
  • Structural changes or removing walls
  • New lights or sockets

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

What goes into it

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Dressing table
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Hanging, shelves and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Shoe storage

From workshop to your room

In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it sits neatly against the room. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Post-war houses tend to have simple halls and stairs, so carrying in is rarely difficult. The way in is still measured, along with the room. On the day, sections are joined, levelled and fixed.

  1. You get in touch and describe the room.
  2. We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways. It helps to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
  5. We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Getting a quote

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Practical tips

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Sort through your clothes before the design visit
  • Talk to your electrician early about lighting
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Count your coats and long garments

New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

A new partition wall is building work, so it comes before us. We make and fit the units inside.

When is bespoke worth it?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Eltham

In the streets around Eltham, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 40%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 28%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Eltham, Historic England’s list includes Eltham Lodge (Grade I), less than half a mile north-west, and Great Hall of Eltham Palace (Grade I), under half a mile north-west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. A quarter or more of the homes in the area around Eltham (about 28%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.

If you live in a flat close to Mottingham station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. The wider area includes historic houses such as Eltham Palace, about 0.4 miles north-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. If you live near Horn Park, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Eltham

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Eltham?

Yes. We cover all of Greenwich and the rest of London, and Eltham is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Eltham?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

Getting it in is planned at the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

How long does fitting take?

Every room is different. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you’ll know before we start.
