Questions from Woolwich
I live in a flat in Woolwich. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Walk-in wardrobes are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Woolwich?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Is ventilation important in a dressing room?
Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. The design allows air to circulate, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Normally not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent.
Walk-in wardrobes in Woolwich: what you get
Beyond the hanging, drawers, shelves and shoe storage do a lot of the work. Folded knitwear sits well on shelves, while drawers hold smaller things and shoes get shelving of their own. A dressing table with a mirror can be built in where there’s space. If you’re living with the right mix of long and short hanging and a built-in dressing table, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Woolwich, so bedroom space is often tight and every wall counts. Fitted furniture can be planned floor to ceiling, so storage goes up rather than out. Each piece is made in sections sized for the stairs, lift and doors, and assembled once it is inside.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

What it costs
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:
- The width and height of the space
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.
What to send when you get in touch
There is no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Your postcode and the borough
- The type of home and how the room is reached
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To book one, fill in our short enquiry form.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Noise from drilling travels in a block, so neighbours may appreciate a note, and many buildings limit noisy work to certain hours. Fitting day is planned around any rules your building has. Saturdays can be arranged if your building allows work then.
- To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
- We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
- A quote in writing follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
- The units are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.
Before we arrive
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Getting a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Advice
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them during the design visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the design visit.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Fitted storage stays with the house when you move. It’s worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before you decide. In a flat, walls are often broken up by radiators, doors and sockets, so off-the-shelf widths rarely fill the gaps. Built-in pieces are sized for each stretch of wall.
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.
