  • Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts

How we price walk-in wardrobes

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Before the design visit

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Examples of the look you’re after

To get a quote, drop us a line using the contact form and let us know which room you have in mind. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Walk-in wardrobes in Oakwood

A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. A corner or one end of a large bedroom can become a dressing area, either open to the room or behind doors. Any new partition wall is for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. If you are living with somewhere to sit and get ready and turning a box room into a dressing room, walk-in wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. A big part of the housing around Oakwood is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.

Our quotes are written in plain words. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Drawers suit smaller things, and they can sit below the hanging or shelves.

From workshop to your room

At the end, we tidy up. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way

Starting with a design visit

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, use our contact form.

Questions from Oakwood

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Oakwood?

Yes, Oakwood is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Enfield and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Oakwood?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?

Yes, if there is enough space. A section of the room can become a dressing area, with doors or left open. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

Is it better to have doors or open storage?

Either works. Doors give a tidy look and help keep dust away, and open storage makes things quick to find. A mix of the two is common.

What happens when you come to measure?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.

Oakwood homes and walk-in wardrobes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 44% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Oakwood, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Oakwood is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

Near listed buildings like Oakwood Underground Station, under half a mile north-west of the centre of Oakwood, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Living in a block of flats near Winchmore Hill station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your home is one of the older houses near St Thomas's Church, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Caring for painted furniture

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Talk to your electrician early about lighting
  • Know what you’ll keep before planning
  • Think about whether you want doors

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can be touched in. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth.

If you want a partition to create the walk-in wardrobe, talk to a builder first. We make and fit the units inside.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
