Walk-in Wardrobes in South Wimbledon
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in South Wimbledon starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.
- The right mix of long and short hanging
- A dressing area in part of a bedroom
- Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe

Walk-in wardrobes in South Wimbledon
Our walk-in wardrobes are made for homes in South Wimbledon and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure and plan the layout, then a written quote. Everything is made in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you’ll know before we start. If your home has shelves for shoes and bags and moving wardrobes out of the bedroom, walk-in wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Floors in older houses often slope, which matters around South Wimbledon, as a large share of homes there date from before 1919. Fitted furniture sits on a plinth or adjustable feet set level, so doors close square and the gaps stay even. The scribe at the wall takes up any bow in the plaster.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
There’s a place for both. In a square room with a tight budget, a ready-made system may be enough. For awkward rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. Chimney breasts in older houses stand out by different amounts, so the recesses either side are rarely the same, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Each side can be made to its own size.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.
Why us?

Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?
Sometimes a house changes and a room becomes spare. A walk-in wardrobe is a popular way to use it.
If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:
- Proper shoe storage
- More space for clothes and shoes
- A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
- A calmer, clearer bedroom
If you live in a period home close to Holy Trinity, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

If you live near Wandle Park, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Southside House, about 1.6 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

When is bespoke worth it?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
- We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways. It helps to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- We send a quote in writing.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- The units are brought in, assembled and set level.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Keep pets in another room while we work
Starting with a design visit
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Questions we’re often asked
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in South Wimbledon?
Yes. South Wimbledon is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Merton and London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details.
Does a conservation area in or near South Wimbledon affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.
