Walk-in Wardrobes in Upper Ruxley
Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Upper Ruxley: walk-in wardrobes and dressing rooms. We visit to measure and discuss the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.
- A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom
- A calmer, clearer bedroom
- A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?
Some want somewhere to sit and get ready. We can design a dressing table into the room next to the hanging and shoe storage.
If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:
- A use for a small spare room
- A dressing area in part of a bedroom
- Long and double hanging planned around your clothes
- Room for a growing wardrobe
If your children go to Hope Community School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
What to check before you book
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Upper Ruxley
A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe and a bedroom without crowded wardrobes.
Internal walls in post-war homes can be lightweight partitions rather than solid block, so tall pieces stand on the floor and are fixed back where the wall allows. Because many homes around Upper Ruxley date from between 1945 and the early 1970s, each wall is checked before anything is designed. Loads are planned so nothing depends on a weak wall.
The furniture is built in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Caring for painted furniture
Getting the most from walk-in wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Think about where shoes and bags will go
- Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
- Have a clear-out before we measure
- Talk to your electrician early about lighting
We adjust doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Houses move a little with the seasons, so hinges allow small adjustments later.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.
From workshop to your room
At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Drilling into concrete is noisier than into brick or plaster, so if neighbours are close, a note before fitting day can help. Fitting day is planned around any building rules on noisy work. We tidy as we go.
- We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home.
- We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
- You get a written quote for the design we’ve agreed, for you to read through.
- The units are made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring everything to your home and fit it to the room. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
How to get a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Questions from Upper Ruxley
Do you cover homes near Swanley station?
Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Upper Ruxley?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.
Can a box room become a walk-in wardrobe?
Often, yes. A box room can take hanging, shelves and drawers on its walls, while leaving space to stand and turn. We check the room during the design visit.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
We plan the route in at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.
Walk-in wardrobes in Upper Ruxley: local notes
Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 51% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Upper Ruxley, with about 20% built between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Upper Ruxley include Old Church of St Botolph (Grade II), less than half a mile west, and Ruxley Farmhouse (Grade II), under half a mile west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Bromley included. Vans bringing furniture to Upper Ruxley fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.
If you live in a flat close to Swanley station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For an older house near St Botolph's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, as well as a bigger outlay. In return, the layout is built around your clothes and your room. Big ready-made pieces can be tricky to carry up communal stairs, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections sized for the way in. It’s then assembled in the room.
There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters, which suits drawer boxes and shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.
Hand-painted finish
If you’d like the units to match the room’s woodwork, hand painting on site works well.
