How we make walk-in wardrobes for Biggin Hill

With a walk-in wardrobe, clothes, shoes and bags have a space to themselves. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. We make it all in our workshop and fit it in your home, so it follows the walls and sits level. If you are living with a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom and long and double hanging planned around your clothes, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

A loft conversion is a common way to add a bedroom to a semi or an interwar house, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. Around Biggin Hill, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Biggin Hill

In the streets around Biggin Hill, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 42%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 29%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Biggin Hill include St Mark's Church (Grade II), under half a mile east, and Norheads Farmhouse (Grade II), under half a mile north-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling may need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. About 42% of homes in the neighbourhood around Biggin Hill were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick.

For a family home near Oaklands Primary Academy, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. The wider area includes historic houses like Down House, about 1.7 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For a flat near Woldingham station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Biggin Hill is about 6 miles north-east of Orpington, within the London Borough of Bromley. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Biggin Hill included. Our work takes in places right across Bromley, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.

What affects the price in Biggin Hill

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit.

What we need to know

A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:

  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Examples of the look you’re after

For a quote for walk-in wardrobes in Biggin Hill, fill in our short enquiry form. Let us know the room and the rough idea, with sizes if you have them. Next comes a design visit, followed by a written quote.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Do you cover homes near Woldingham station?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Biggin Hill?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

How are walk-in wardrobes priced?

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we quote once we’ve measured. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?

In many cases, yes. The layout depends on the room, the door and the window. We plan it at the design visit.

Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?

Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, especially on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.

Flats, leases and landlords

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit.

Before and after fitting day

Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Let air move through the space
  • Measure how much long hanging you need
  • Have a clear-out before we measure
  • Consider a mix of doors and open shelves

Where we’ve fitted adjustable shelves, you can move them, so the space keeps working. It is worth a rethink each season.

If the room is on an external wall, have any damp sorted first. External walls can be colder and damper, and ventilation inside the units helps.

Why bespoke in Biggin Hill?

If you’re likely to move soon, standalone furniture you can take with you may suit better. How long you will stay is worth weighing up before you decide. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors aren’t perfectly true, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Why us?

  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight

What happens on fitting day

Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. First, you let us know about the space and how you dress. It could be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom.
  2. We come to measure the room and go through how the space should work.
  3. You get a quote in writing for the design we have agreed, for you to read through.
  4. Everything is made and finished in our workshop.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Tell us about parking near your home

Arranging a design visit

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
