Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Ruxley
Questions we are often asked
Do you cover homes near Albany Park station?
Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Ruxley?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
It is something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?
Yes, where the room is large enough. One end or a corner can be set aside with a run of units, open or behind doors. A new partition wall is building work, so that is for your builder.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.
Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Ruxley
Lighting makes a big difference in a dressing room, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We can plan the units so there’s space for the lighting you want and agree the details when we measure. People normally come to us about setting aside a corner of a large bedroom and hanging for coats, dresses and shirts, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Many homes around Ruxley date from the post-war decades. Bedrooms from that era are often squarer than in older houses, which suits fitted furniture along a full wall. Some have a built-in cupboard over the stairs already, which can be opened up or reworked. Walls may be concrete, block or brick, so fixings are chosen for the wall.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Is bespoke worth it?
Fitted storage stays with the house when you move. How long you will stay is worth weighing up before choosing fitted. In a flat with stairs or a small lift, large flat-pack units can be hard to get in, while fitted furniture arrives in sections made to fit the route. It’s then assembled in the room.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Fitting day, step by step
In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Stairwells in post-war blocks can have tight turns, so sections are sized for both the stairs and any lift. Where the building has a caretaker or managing agent, it is useful to tell them before fitting day. We cover the floors in shared areas on the way in.
- You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
- We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
- You receive a written quote for the walk-in wardrobe.
- The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
How to get a quote
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

How we price walk-in wardrobes
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:
- How square the room is
- The overall size of the piece
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How many doors and drawers there are
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Helping us understand the room
These details help when you contact us:
- Approximate measurements of the space
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
It is useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Practical tips
These points come up often when people plan walk-in wardrobes. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:
- Think about where shoes and bags will go
- Measure how much long hanging you need
- Sort through your clothes before the design visit
- Think about whether you want doors
We adjust doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.
It helps to know what you will keep before we measure. The amount of long hanging, double hanging, shelving and shoe storage depends on what you own, so a clear-out first gives a better design.
Walk-in wardrobes in Ruxley: local notes
About 51% of the homes in the area around Ruxley went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 20% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Ruxley, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. About 51% of homes in the area around Ruxley were built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Post-war bedrooms are typically simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall.
For a flat near Albany Park station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Ruxley Farmhouse, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If your children go to Hope Community School or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
