About our walk-in wardrobes in Foots Cray

With a walk-in wardrobe, clothes, shoes and bags have a space to themselves. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted to the room, scribed to the walls and set level. Most enquiries start with room for a growing wardrobe and a side each for a couple; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Around Foots Cray, where many homes date from the post-war decades, bedrooms are often compact but simple to plan. Where there isn’t much space in front, a careful layout helps everything fit. Concrete and blockwork walls need fixings chosen for them.

Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How it’s made

Doors and drawer fronts

Drawers suit smaller things, and they can sit below the hanging or shelves.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting suits a dressing room that should look crisp, and it is finished before fitting day.

Flats, conversions and lettings

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you contact us.

Fitting day, step by step

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Stairwells in post-war blocks can have tight turns, so the size of each section is set by the stairs as well as the lift. Letting the caretaker or managing agent know ahead of time helps. Common parts are protected while we carry in.

  1. To begin, fill in our short enquiry form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Questions we’re often asked

I live near Sidcup station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room.

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Foots Cray?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London, and Foots Cray is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we quote once we’ve measured. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Can I send pictures before the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It is made in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route along with the room itself.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need someone to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

What we do not do

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • New lights or sockets
  • Curing damp in the walls
  • Structural changes or removing walls

If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, as well as a bigger outlay. In return, the layout is built around your clothes and your room. Skirting boards stop standalone furniture sitting flat against the wall, which wastes depth and gathers dust. Built-in pieces sit tight to the wall, scribed over the skirting.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
